Ask anyone that works at or owns a business these days and they will all agree, Social Media Business Reviews are a great way to show off your business. Whether it’s Facebook, Google+, Twitter or YouTube, they are all equally important in their own ways. Shoppers are seeking out information on products and services and becoming educated before they even say the first “hello.” Online reviews are a big portion of the information gathering. Whether it’s TripAdvisor for travel, or Consumer Reports for products, we’ve all used a review to help us decide whether a business is trustworthy.

In today’s post, I will teach you how you to take advantage of social media business reviews, why you need to use them and what they can do for you.

Then, if you read all the way to the bottom of this post, I will explain how you can get a 25% discount on your next computer cleanup from SurePoint IT Solutions.

Let’s get started!

How Can My Business Benefit From Social Media Business Reviews

First, let’s define what exactly Social Media is. The great Wikipedia defines social media as “computer-mediated tools that allow people to create, share or exchange information, ideas, and pictures/videos in virtual communities and networks.” In short, the web sites we all love to use on our phones, tablets and computers that connect us instantly with people and information from all around the globe. For a more detailed definition, head over here.

There are many social media sites on the internet today. For this post, I’m going to focus on the two biggest ones. Facebook and Google+.

Facebook

It’s hard to believe that Facebook has been around for just over 10 years. In those years, there have been many additions and changes made to the social media giant. First, let’s start out with some facts. As of late last year, there were an estimated 1.35 billion active users on Facebook. 72% of the adults logged on more than once a month, and the estimated time spent logged on was 21 minutes.

Needless to say, Facebook is huge, but believe it or not there are still people and businesses that haven’t taken advantage of this completely free service! If nothing else, a business needs to be on Facebook so it can start to take advantage of the user base.

Still not convinced you should be using Social Media?

Here’s another fact. In late 2014, there were an estimated 30+ million small businesses with a Facebook Business Page. Consider this, if your business is not using a FREE business page, your competitor is.

Ok, so now you know what Facebook is and what it could mean for your business. In a word, clients, lots of them, all following you, saying good things about your company and interested in what you have to say.

Let’s say you take my advice and go right now and create a Business Page. You’ve filled out all the information and posted your first update.

Now what?

How do you ensure your page stands out from the rest of the 30+ million? By taking advantage of a feature called the Social Media Business Reviews.

On every Facebook business page there is a menu bar. In that bar there is a tab that says Reviews. It looks like this…

Go there. Click it. This is where you want your clients, followers, customers, whoever has nice things to say about you to go and leave you a review. When someone leaves you a review, it increases the chances of your business being shown to more followers. The Facebook algorithm knows what people want to see on their wall. Relevant posts, interesting articles, and high traffic flow all increase the chances of people seeing your status updates. Reviews play a big role as well, because the more people you have giving your praise, the more Facebook thinks your company is worth reading about. It’s strong social proof that your product or service is trustworthy and makes people keep coming back for more.

So, the next time you have a customer in your business, be sure to ask them to leave you a review. But don’t be too pushy. No one likes to be begged to leave comments or reviews. That’s a no-no.

Google+

Just like Facebook, Google+ is equally important to get customer reviews on. It hasn’t been around as long as Facebook but it has a much larger impact on your business because it is another layer to the Google search. It’s part of a set of services called Google My Business.

Google My Business

This set of tools includes Google Maps, Google Search, Google+, YouTube, and Google Reviews all in one management platform. In fact, I recently discovered that SurePoint IT Solutions had 3 different Google+ pages, all from different accounts we had created over the years. Since Google migrated Google Local, YouTube and all the other services under this platform, we had a few lingering so we cleaned them up by deleting the accounts. If you find you have this happen to you, contact us and we can help you resolve this.

Here’s how it works: When someone goes to Google to search for information, if they are logged in to their account Google will be able to determine the businesses that are relevant to your search. You can tell if you are logged in by looking up at the top right for a pictures of yourself.

Here’s an example…

Go to Google and search for tires. IF you are logged in, a map will display to the right with the closest city to your location. Below that will show you all the local businesses that Google knows about that deal with tires. The maps section looks like this.

Google Maps

This is where it gets interesting. Some of those businesses are going to have a Google+ page but none of them really stick out. With Google+ Reviews, the trick is to get at least 5 reviews for your business. Once you do, something magical happens. Google automatically puts you above the rest of the competition which instantly gives you a leg up! You come up at the top of the list. And here’s the thing, no one really takes advantage of this FREE feature. I searched for tires, banks and cleaning and not one business has more than 3 reviews.  Again, this signals strong social proof that your product or service is trustworthy, landing you more clients and a more successful page.

In Conclusion

Reviews are a large factor in how shoppers find relevant information about businesses. Since there are so many people using Social Media today, it is beneficial to any business to get on Facebook and Google+ and drive more people to leave them reviews. This not only helps the business, it increases the wealth of the community and provides a better system for everyone to use.

How about you? Do you have a social media business page? How do you manage your reviews? Do you use some other social media business reviews page besides the ones I mentioned here? Did I leave out your favorite reviews page? I’d like to hear your thoughts below!
